Looking for quick facts about Tourette’s? Well I just had the CUTEST infographics shared with me via @ thetictionary on Instagram.
Just — look at these!!
instagram
[Embedded post 1 ID: A pink infographic with monochrome wave designs and white flowers titled ‘quick facts about tourette syndrome’. Five different blurbs read out facts.
Blurb 1: Tourettes affects 1 in 50 children.
Blurb 2: There is no cure for TS, and there is currently no drug out there specifically made for TS.
Blurb 3: Tics are heightened during times of stress or excitement.
Blurb 4: Less than 10 percent of people with TS swear, which is known as coprolalia.
Blurb 5: More than 86 percent of people with TS also have co-morbid conditions — ADHD, OCD, anxiety disorders, sensory processing disorder (SPD), dyslexia, and more.
/end post ID]
instagram
[Embedded post 2 ID: A cream, red, and green infographic with a title that has arrows pointing to the six blurbs which surround it. On the sides of the title are red six-pointed stars. The title reads ‘6 facts surrounding tourette syndrome’.
Blurb 1: TS is 3 times more common in boys than girls.
Blurb 2: Tics usually start around the age of 5 to 10 years old. The first tics are usually motor tics.
Blurb 3: TS is believed to result from a dysfunction of the thalamus, basil ganglia and frontal cortex regions of the brain.
Blurb 4: Maximum tic severity occurs between the ages of 8 and 12 years and is then usually followed by a steady decline in symptoms.
Blurb 5: TS does not affect a persons IQ.
Blurb 6: In 20-30% of cases, symptoms disappear entirely as the person with TS ages into their 20s.
/end post ID]
Go give them a follow! This account is an awesome resource for Tourette’s facts.

Eyeing Tic and Snap respectfully 👉👈❤️ they look like good goobers. I'm surprised Snap hasn't gotten many ships outside of the one with him and Klek.

LEGO Halloween and Spooky sets
I had hoped I would be able to start posting every day again for Halloween but that just didn't happen, as life tends to get in the way. So instead, I will share my research for all things Spooky or Halloween related: The main "spooky" lines are Monster Fighters from 2012 (with nine sets and four polybags), Scooby Doo from 2015-2016 (with five sets and one polybag), and the Hidden Side from 2019-2020 (with 21 sets, two polybags, and nine foil packs).
2007-2009 was the Fantasy Era castle series, which included 11 sets of minifigures versus trolls (5614, 5615, 5618, 7036, 7037, 7038, 7040, 7041, 7048, 7078, 7097), eight set of minifigures versus skeletons (7009, 7029, 7079, 7090, 7091, 7092, 7093, 7094), 1 chess set of minifigures versus skeletons (852001), three minifigure versus trolls battle packs (852271, 852701, 852702), one battle pack of minifigure skeletons (852272), one minifigure versus the undead tic tac toe game (852132), and one giant chess set of minifigures versus trolls AND skeletons (852293).
In 2010, the Collectible MiniFigure (CMF) series 14 (71010) was all "spooky" elements which included a wolf guy, zombie pirate, monster scientist, wacky witch, plant monster, specter, zombie cheerleader, tiger woman, gargoyle, skeleton guy, monster rocker, zombie business man, banshee, square foot, and spider lady. Other "spooky" minifigures could the zombie from CMF 1 in 2010 (8683), the zombie Captain America from 2021 Marvel CMF series (71031), the zombie dancer, slime singer, and vampire bassist from 2021's Vidiyo Bandmates (43108), the cute little devil and the spooky boy from CMF 16 in 2016 (71013), and the spooky girl from CMF 12 in 2014 (71007). Additionally, there have been several Build A Minifigure (BAM) minifigure elements at LEGO stores throughout the years, including a Halloween Trio from 2018 (BAM2018-3) and Halloween Minifigures from 2020 (BAM2020-3).
LEGO has several Minecraft sets which fall into the mildly spooky realm, including the Zombie Cave (21141), Big Fig Pig with Baby Zombie (21157), Pumpkin Farm (21248), and the Steve, Zombie, and Pig Foil Pack (662101), as well as a Minecraft BrickHeadz Zombie (40626). LEGO produced four Ghostbuster sets (10274, 21108, 75827, 75828), four Dimensions sets (71228, 71233, 71241, and 71242), and one BrickHeadz (41622).
Some of the sets not part of main themes include the Belville Witch's Cottage from 1999 (5804), the Studio's Vampire's Crypt from 2002 (1381), the Adventure Designer Kit from 2013 (20214), the Haunted House from 2020 (10273), and the Ideas Hocus Pocus Sanderson Sisters' Cottage (21341).
Additionally, LEGO has produced a variety of smaller, holiday builds for things like pumpkins, monsters, shops, and accessory kits. You can find most of those builds by going to places like Rebrickable or BrickLink and using key search terms such as Halloween, pumpkin, witch, vampire, monster, witch, etc., which will give you a long list of Halloween-related builds (3047, 3731, 7831, 7832, 7836, 10696, 11003, 31038, 40012, 40013, 40014, 40020, 40021, 40032, 40055, 40070, 40090, 40104, 40122, 40203, 40260, 40272, 40351, 40422, 40423, 40493, 40497, 40562, 40570, 40608, 561410, 561610, 561910, 850487, 850936, 853607, 854049).
Whew! That's quite the list! Maybe next year, I'll be in a better position to post pictures of all those sets :)

OC Asks: Character Design
This is what I did instead of working tonight. Because I am an adult, and a responsible one at that!
oc asks: character design edition
glance: At first glance, what stands out most about your OC's appearance? What's their distinguishing feature? His size. Kai looks as though he would fall to a good gust of wind. The epitome of “damn, go eat something” His eyes are large, and he sports impressive dark circles for someone in their mid-twenties.
face: Describe your OC's face. What's their smile like? Are their orbs cerulean? What would someone notice first when looking at them? Oh, his face is incredibly sad whenever he thinks nobody is looking. His eyes are (in world) an unnaturally bright gold, complete with occasional shimmer. His smile, when genuine is beautiful. It is most often a mask, though he tries to keep his expression perfectly neutral when at rest, or when not interacting with others directly. Prominent cheekbones, and long, tapered ears. He’s adopted a semi-elven appearance now that he knows he can use magic.
stature: What's your OC's body type? How tall are they? Do they wear clothing to accentuate their look or do they try to mask it? 5Ft9. He is utterly… small. Gaunt, gangly. He tries to make himself semi-invisible on a day to day basis. He dresses like someone who is used to keeping everything they own close to him.
motion: How does your OC move? How does their clothing help or hinder their range of motion? Are they flexible, coordinated, clumsy? No one would call Kai graceful on any sort of regular basis. He’s able to move well if he’s putting thought into it, but in terms of just getting from A to B, he is utterly average, to occasionally clumsy. He’ll drag his feet a bit too much at time, as though picking them up for a proper step is simply too much effort.
stillness: How does your OC act while still? Are they fidgety? Do they have any common gestures or tics? Does their clothing affect how they hold themselves while at rest? He often twists the ring he wears on his right hand, touching the engraving, tracing the lines with the edge of a fingernail. If anyone takes notice of it, or asks questions, he will close his hand, and adopt a slightly defensive edge to his posture. In classes he is fidgety, constantly glancing around, eyes flicking from place to place, leg(s) bouncing. He slouches too much, keeping his shoulders up around his neck. When inebriated (which is sadly, often), he is languid, and overly relaxed. All the care and caution he normally holds himself with will vanish. His gestures are fluid, careless.
canvas: Does your OC have any scars, piercings, tattoos, or other markings? Do they display or cover them up at all? Both ears are heavily pierced, with the charms dangling from the holes a mismatch of symbols, delicate chains, and jewel chips. Some items appear to be incredibly cheap costume jewelry, while others are obviously valuable. The gemstones are genuine, and in a rainbow of colors. Some holes have 2 or 3 earrings poked through, stretching the piercings slightly.
Scars. So many. The largest of course is from top surgery, the incisions were obviously well taken care of, and healed cleanly. They are still the angry pink of new tissue, but sealed well. His inner arms from the elbow up are racks upon racks of thin scars, mostly healed over and old, silvery white. Sometimes, a few new ones appear. His upper chest also has multiple scars, including circular, mostly faded burns. His upper thighs mirror the appearance of his arms – old scars beyond counting. Self harm was not a short phase, and may be something he still struggles with regularly. Tattoos – many trashy old stick & poke style tattoos, most are too blurred and faded to be much beyond shaded blobs. One on his hip left has been refreshed professionally, a hand with folded bills, with the text “Good Boy” beneath. When dressed, the hand appears to be tucking the money into his waistband, the words hidden. He has seven ornate stars on his inner forearm (right), all in various configurations, black with highlights in the same colors as on his ears. These almost appear to be inlaid somehow – they don’t have the same feel as a tattoo.
The strangest, and least hidden mark on him is a bruise encircling the base his throat. It is in full lividity, deep blues and purples through the center, the edges feathering red to yellow. It never fades, and when asked about it, Kai simply replies, “It’s a reminder.”, and seems reluctant to elaborate, although a few are aware of some of it’s history.
The self harm scars are mostly hidden by what he wears on a daily basis. If some happen to show, well. Whoever sees them, sees them. They’re only actively hidden when there are fresher marks.
night: What does your OC wear to sleep? Do they have a favorite pair of PJs, or are they more the birthday suit type? Sleeping where he feels safe, he is a naked sort. If he’s around people he isn’t familiar with or doesn’t trust, he’ll wear sleep pants and a long-sleeved tee. These are thin from wear, the shirts easily seen through when it is held up to the light.
day: What does your OC wear on a normal day? Why do they default to those clothes? Do they wear similar things, or do they change it up? (uniform – how does he make it his? What colors are added? tbc)
formal: What's your OC's formal look? Do they like dressing up? Do they have different looks for different occasions? Formal occasions are… weird. Unused to them, he usually allows whoever he is accompanying to choose his outfits for him. His only caveat is nothing overtly feminine, gowns/skirts/etc. Blurring the lines is fine though. If he is going somewhere formal with someone, it is most likely they know him, and he has some level of trust in their decisions.
informal: What's your OC's lazy-day look? How do they like to dress when they're winding down? Kai has three or four pairs of nearly identical cargo-type pants – they may have come from a surplus at one point in time. They are torn/stitched/patched/sanded/painted/frayed, and extremely soft from wear. Tee shirts are commonplace, some in better condition than others, some long sleeved, some short. Most have been modified to a wide neck/to fall off the shoulder. Oversized sweaters with the knit nearly falling apart are also common when he is cold (often). Thumb-holes have been added to everything.
outerwear: What's your OC's outerwear situation? Jacket, sweater, cloak? What sort of weather do they deal with most and how do they protect themselves? The Devildom (HC) is Cold. Extremely cold. He came initially without too much of his own things, and shivered a lot in a hoodie, and ended up with frostbite twice. Now that there are people to look out for him, his favorite jacket is a thin pale grey puffer, with a large hood (that he’s added an inner pocket to to keep a flask close at all times). It hits to mid-thigh. The neckline/hood are lined/trimmed in fur, white with silver and black spots. He’s been assured the animal is not in any danger, and is used for food as well as clothing. That puts it in the same category as leather and cows so far as he’s concerned. He will layer gloves, a full set, with fingerless over the top. He hates things on his head, so he’ll usually not wear hats. If those closest notice, he’ll put one on when they grump at him.
footwear: What does your OC wear on their feet? Socks. So many socks. Different colors, patterns, stripes, gradients, florals, you name it. Socks. He’ll wear house-slippers sometimes when he is extremely cold. Outdoors, it is boots, again most likely from a surplus store, standard black combat. They are old and broken in, and in the past have been taped and (badly) stitched together. They were stolen and taken to a cobbler very early in his stay. A few new pair of shoes have shown up in his closet, but he doesn’t pay them too much mind.
road: What does your OC wear while traveling? Do they have high-quality equipment, or are they making do? What does their gear look like? Traveling? In this economy? He doesn’t have a separate travel wardrobe. It’s all the same things.
armor: What kind of armor does your OC wear? Is it well kept? Bonus: where does it come from? Is there a story behind it? Armor? No. He laughs at the idea. He understands for some people it is important, but he will never see himself as one of them.
arms: Does your OC have any weapons? What weapons do they carry, and how do they wear them when they're not fighting? Kai carries 2 knives at all time. One a standard deniable folding pocket knife with a smallish blade. The second is a larger fixed blade knife, which is tucked into the inner ankle of his boot, hooked over the top, hidden by his pant leg.
roots: Is your OC's look inspired by any specific style of clothing or fashion trend? What are the roots and/or inspiration for their look? In the past, it was whatever he could get his hands on. Now that he has begun to feel like he’s okay with those around him for the most part, he will accept their gifts. He never asks for anything, but is exceptionally grateful if he’s given gifts of clothing. He tends to hover towards alternative styles, vaguely punk, layers upon layers, some things whole, some things barely more than holes.
texture: Does your OC favor any specific kinds of cloth or textures? Is there anything they can't wear or don't like? What sort of fabrics do they prefer? Soft, soft, soft is preferred. Itchy things and things with tighter collars are a problem for him (more restrictive than boat-neck or loose tee shirts). Heavy clothing (large wool coats, etc.) is cumbersome and makes him uncomfortable. Things that restrict movement make him nervous.
wardrobe: How big is your character's wardrobe? Do they wear things threadbare, or can they afford new clothes often? Are they any good at mending and repairing their own clothing? Threadbare is the only look most of the time. He’s excellent at small repairs on clothing, and has figured out some decent visual mending type patterns for sweaters. It drives some people insane, because he could buy new things – but never does. Even if someone else is footing the bill, his first suggestion is thrifting
bling: What jewelry does your OC wear? Does it have any meaning? About 25 or 30 small earrings. A few have meaning, most of them are just pretty. The Ring of Light. Yeah. That has never come off from the day it was given to him (sometimes he wishes he had plunged that knife into his chest). Glasses – gold frames, browline. They were selected for him, they were far, far too much for him to have ever considered on his own.
hair: How does your OC wear their hair? Does it have some kind of meaning? Messy. Half up. A decade of self-haircuts/color/bleach hasn’t lent itself much to meaning. He just likes it. Pale/washed out peachy pink-orange vibe, in something that could almost be a mullet. He doesn’t care.
makeup: Does your OC wear makeup? How often? What kind? Why do they wear makeup, and do they like it? Eyeliner smudged on daily. A bit of concealer when the dark circles are Simply Too Much and he doesn’t want to hear about it. If he’s going out and more is required, he can add more – he’s more apt to let someone else paint him up if they want him looking a certain way. He’s not disappointing anyone then.
favorite: Does your OC have a favorite article of clothing or accessory? What is it? What's the meaning behind it? Do they wear it all the time or do they wear it sparingly to keep it safe? As above – the ring of light never leaves his hand. It is incredibly meaningful to him, both for it’s purpose and the price that was paid to get it to him. He will never forget that, and will never stop feeling guilty, even if the price was not something he knew until it was too late.
change: Has your OC ever drastically changed their appearance? Significant haircuts, big tattoos, complete wardrobe swap, etc? Why? How do they feel about the change? … HA! Does gender count? Everything? The glamours he wears daily and the shapeshifting he took painstaking efforts to learn to bend his body to where it should be? Yeah. He has.
alternate: What would your OC's alternate universe look be? Tiefling most likely. He’d be a Divine Soul Sorcerer. I’d have to take some time to flesh this out more. Cyberpunk, he'd lean netrunner. He's tired of being fully out In The Thick of it. Again, more time needed to think on it all.

I Need A New Look
I think I've finally figured out why I don't fit in at the school. I need a new designer wardrobe from one of those really expansive teen shops at the mall.
You know, the ones where the salegirls dress like Hannah Montana and have pierced belly buttons, blonde highlights, and phony smiles.
But what drives me INSANE is their nasty habit of unexpectedly snatching open the curtain of your dressing room and popping their head inside when you're HALF NAKED. It's enough to make you want to slap these damn blonde highlights right out of their hair.
And when you look in the mirror, you can obviously see that the outfit looks horrible on you. But those salegirl bitches Just smile really big and act cute and perky and LIE TO YOUR FACE by saying the outfit (1) looks totally fabulous, (2) brings out your natural skin tones, and (3) complements your eye color.
I'll tell you this EVEN if you're trying on one of those huge green lawn size HEFTY TRASH BAGS!
I also hate clothes that are "SNOBBY CHIC."
It's when the exact same outfit looks totally different on two different guys. The more popular you are in school, the BETTER it looks on you, and the more unpopular you are, the WORSE it looks on you. I can't tell you how a snobby chic outfit mysteriously knows all of this personal stuff about you, but it obviously DOES!
The SNOBBY CHIC phenomenon is quite a mind-bogging thing. Hopefully, Congress will allocate funding for scientists to study it, along with how socks mysteriously disappear from a dryer. But until then, BUYER BEWARE!
Anyway, after my dad buys me a designer wardrobe, I'm going to walk right up to Spryman and his little entourage and tell them off really good
But before I say anything, I'm going to put my hands on my hips and do that neck-roll thing like Tyra Banks, just to show them how much attitude I really have.
Tyrus says every girl must find her own inter beauty deep down inside and ignore all the HATERS. She's SO sweet and a wonderful role model!
Although I have to admit, she's kind of SCARY on America's Next Top Model.
Especially when she's screaming stuff at those poor contestants like, "You FAT, worthless SKANKS! You will NEVER, EVER make it in the model industry like I did! You have NO idea how much I've BLED and SUFFERED! And wipe that SMIRK off yo' face before I SLAP it off, you little BITCH!"
Then she starts crying hysterically in popping Tic Tac breath mints.
I just LOVE that girl!
I've decided that i'm going to tell Spryman right to his face (on maybe the last day of school) That's just because he and his clothes dressed like FASHIONISTAS, they do NOT have the right to say really mean things about other people.
People will be in the boys whose dad make them shop at JCPenney Sears, Target, Wal-Mart, or even Hot Topic.
Boys like... well, ME!
Okay. It's NOT a big secret that the clothes from both stores AREN'T as hot as the clothes from the mall.
And yes, Is a huge inconvenience (and a definite turnoff) To have to walk through the "OLD ladies", "FAT ladies", and "PREGNANT ladies" departments to get to the one for "TEENS"...
My dad says it really doesn't matter where your clothes come from as long as they're clean. Right?
I wish I had a dollar for every time I've heard Spryman shriek, "OMG! WHERE THE HELL are these PATHETIC bastards buying such HIDEOUS?! I'd come to school but naked before I would EVER buy my fashions from a store that sells LAWN MOWERS!"
To be honest I didn't know the stores.I shopped ad sold lawn mowers. And even if they do, big fat hairy deal.
It's not like the clothes smell like a lawn mower or something. At least. I hadn't noticed it.
The next time I go shopping, I'm gonna sniff a clothing before I buy anything just to make sure.
I'm also gonna wear a hat, sunglasses, and phony mustache so no one will recognize me.
WHATEVER!!

rayo plateado tic tac boom shirt
Tumblr media
(The Bolshevik) sentinel slowly raised his head. But just at this moment the rayo plateado tic tac boom shirt body of my friend rose up and blanketed the fire from me and in a twinkling the feet of the sentinel flashed through the air, as my companion had seized him by the throat and swung him clear into the bushes, where both figures disappeared. In a second he re-appeared, flourished the rifle of the Partisan over his head and I heard the dull blow which was followed by an absolute calm. He came back toward me and, confusedly smiling, said: “It is done. God and the Devil! When I was a boy, my mother wanted to make a priest out of me. When I grew up, I became a trained agronome in order. . . to strangle the people and smash their skulls? Revolution is a very stupid thing!” And with anger and disgust he spit and began to smoke his pipe.

Congrats on getting closer to the mystery of the jolteon! I remember you telling this story a few times before, yeah. An end-string terminator getting janked up does make sense as causing that kind of effect, but it's still wild to imagine how on earth it could've happened.
'Course, now you've got me going and rambling about my own weird childhood glitch experiences, lol.
I'm not sure if I've ever told this story on Tumblr aside from some passing mentions, but one time back in Ye Olde Gen One Days I was battling Blaine on my Blue version and the game just went bananas on me for no apparent reason. The music faded out and left behind only sound effects; garbled text claimed that Blaine's rapidash was "frozen solid" and "hurt by its burn" (in my memories it was also poisoned but that's likely just because burn and poison originally used the same animation); the rapidash suddenly had more health than would fit on the screen; one tic of the burn somehow did enough damage to drain its entire massive HP bar multiple times; and then, after it finally fainted, the same rapidash came right back out. Eventually all this mysterious freezer-burn made quick slow work of Rapidash: The Revenge, and maybe also Blaine's arcanine and Arcanine 2: Son of Arcanine, with basically no input from me beyond advancing the text and selecting moves that only seemed to do More Freezer Burn Damage. I won the battle, a bunch of "pokémon" I didn't have "evolved", and the game finally gave up and crashed before Blaine could give me my well-earned(?????) Volcano Badge. Mini-Phoenix's tiny mind was, quite understandably, blown.
Unlike Free's unique jolteon, this effect and how it typically happens are now quite well-documented. My experience is just about a perfect match for the "TMTRAINER effect", which is most commonly caused by the game trying to load the name of a "Super Glitch" move in battle (a category of glitch move that is missing that same 0x50 end-string character mentioned above and which, when displayed in battle, reads excessive amounts of unrelated data in its attempt to figure out where the "name" ends). Here's a video of the TMTRAINER effect and various other Super Glitch effects if you want to see some typical examples, presumably made by the creator hacking a Super Glitch move onto their mewtwo.
Okay, so great! It was the TMTRAINER effect, mystery solved. There's just one problem: I don't know how I triggered this.
First off, I know I didn't cause this by cheating/hacking. If I had then surely I would've attributed the effect to that rather than having no idea what in the world had just happened. And even then, I didn't own any cheating devices that should've been able to cause this. I had something called a Brain Boy, which was designed specifically for Pokémon games and featured user-friendly menus that limited themselves to pokémon/moves/items with valid ID ranges and names. I could've given myself a mew or some unused but non-glitchy items like the ????? "surfboard", but nothing stranger than that; it just plain didn't have the ability to edit in glitch pokémon or glitch moves. I wasn't using it at the time, regardless.
The only proper glitches I'm certain I would've known about at the time were the Cinnabar coast trick and missingno./'m (which can't cause this effect on their own). This was in the days before even the Mew Trick first appeared online, let alone the extensive glitch research community and disassembly projects we have now, so any glitch pokémon that actually learned a Super Glitch move would've been unknown to me and unobtainable through any means I possessed.
There is a way to cause Super Glitch effects using a normal pokémon that knows transform: make sure the transformer knows 3 or fewer moves, have it transform into something with more moves, swap the first transformed move with what would be an empty slot in its normal moveset, and once the transformation ends its first move will become "-", which has an unterminated internal name and "CoolTrainer♀" as its type. I'm fairly sure I remember seeing a rough description of the transform-swapping/"CoolTrainer" glitch on the old cheat sites of yesteryear at some point. But if I had deliberately been messing with that glitch then, again, the sudden occurrence wouldn't have surprised me, so I can't have done it on purpose.
It is technically possible that I might have had a ditto on my team and accidentally swapped its moves around while transformed, or done so because I just felt like rearranging the order with no idea there'd be any ill effects. But:
I would then have to have avoided viewing the ditto's status screen (which would've alerted me to a problem ahead of time) and sending the ditto out in battle before that Blaine match (which would've caused the effect to happen sooner than it did). Heck, when I nervously rebooted my game after the crash, ensured my save still worked and then tried the Blaine battle again, everything was completely normal—I was relieved but, truth be told, also a little disappointed—so it's unlikely that I'd saved the game with the "CoolTrainer" glitch move already in the moveset. This would mean I'd have to have made this mistake earlier within that specific Blaine battle, swapped out the ditto and then swapped it back in to face the rapidash. Not impossible, but...
I don't think I remember seeing anything obviously wrong with my active pokémon's moveset in the moments before the TMTRAINER effect went off. I'm pretty sure I'd have noticed that "transform" had unexpectedly become a non-move called "-" with a trainer class's name for a type. (I'm not 100% sure about this, though. Maybe I did see something weird in the move list...? Gah, memories.)
I also do not recall, at any point, ever using a ditto on my team during any serious playthroughs. Unfortunately I don't remember specifically what I was using. I do vaguely recall the thing I'd sent out being something with a dark and roundish backsprite, which brings to mind the poliwag line or maybe an oddish (possibly a cut-user I'd sent out as a heal-stalling attempt?), but that's the most detail I think I can remember; it could've been anything with a mostly gray/black and chunky-looking backsprite, assuming this part of the memory is correct.
I suppose it could've been a mew rather than a ditto, which I know I did use on several playthroughs. I did have a legit one obtained from an event at one point, and if this wasn't the save with the legit mew then I certainly could've cheated one in at some point. But a mew of a level typical for facing Blaine (~40) literally could not have fewer than four moves without cheating, and surely I'd want my team to have full movesets by that point in the game, so the mew would've been created illogically and/or severely underleveled (29 or lower). Anyway, mew's backsprite looks even less like what I remember than ditto's does.
Granted, this was over two decades ago. Human memory is fickle and liable to patch up holes with things that didn't quite happen. There is a chance there really was a ditto (or mew) and I really did cause exactly the right screw-up to set off the TMTRAINER effect in the first Blaine battle but not the second. Certainly it's the simplest explanation. But I dunno, man. Perhaps it's wishful thinking, me wanting the moment to be more special than it actually was, but it just doesn't feel quite right.
The only other option I can think of, though, would have to be some form of "cosmic ray flipped a bit". All the talk of string terminators made me wonder if the 0x50 character could've been lopped off the end of a move name or otherwise modified, but that can't be it due to the way move names are stored; rather than reading unrelated data, I'm fairly sure the game would just continue into the next move name in the list before finding a valid terminator there (e.g. if the affected move were surf it might say something like "POLIWRATH used SURFICE BEAM!" or something, and then otherwise execute surf normally).
If I am misremembering the part about not noticing anything weird before selecting a move, though (or I don't remember because I genuinely didn't notice rather than because there was nothing visibly wrong at all), another possibility might be that the little space particle bounced off of one of this pokémon's stored moves. Which moves a pokémon knows are just saved as index numbers rather than names or other data, and it's possible one of those numbers got changed to another one that referred to a glitch move with an unterminated name. What little I understand about single-event upset bit flips—extremely little, let's be clear here—would require this move to be pretty close to the end of the internal move ID list in order for a flipped bit to hit a Super Glitch move; tri attack, super fang, slash and substitute are the last four actually learnable moves (struggle is the very last and right before the first Super Glitch but isn't normally part of an actual moveset), so maybe those might be worth looking at. If it were super fang it'd at least narrow down the options for what the pokémon was, heh. Raticate miiiiight fit that fuzzy memory closely enough.
Maybe someday I'll unlazy enough to do some more thorough investigating of my own, heh. Or maybe someone out there's got a different explanation I'm not thinking of! For now, it's just amusing to think back on that little moment of chaos and wonder. It would be pretty funny if the universe just decided this pokémon needed a little unterminated move name spice in its life that day.
On my old Yellow version save file - the one where I named myself TRAINER because I thought it felt more official, with the Charizard that made me love Charizard, and the Pikachu that I trained to level 100 to make him happy again after I’d had to deposit him to try a stupid rumour about how you could get into Bill’s secret garden if you had six specific Pokémon in your party, and the Seaking that I raised and was the reason I knew the move Waterfall existed in R/B/Y when nobody else did, and the team whose stats I once meticulously wrote down in red pencil on a piece of paper that I still have, back when I still thought the Special stat had something to do with the effect chance of moves - I had a glitched Jolteon.
Specifically, when you tried to view his stats, the screen would just go blank. It really freaked me out the first time it happened; I thought the game had crashed somehow. But when I pressed A after that, the stats did appear - only some/all of the labels for the information were missing. (My memory is a little fuzzy on exactly what was missing, but I do remember it showed 22166 and TRAINER where they should be, but not the IDNo/ and OT/ that should have been above them; I’m pretty sure the TYPE1/ was missing as well. Not sure about anything else.) The second stat page was perfectly normal as far as I can recall. This happened consistently, exactly like this, every time I viewed this one Pokémon’s stats. There was nothing wrong with any other Pokémon I had, or anything else on the game, and in every other respect he was just a normal Jolteon. But he was glitched, so he was different, so he was awesome.
I never knew why my Jolteon was glitched. It was a real cartridge, bought new, and I’d never used a cheating device or exploited glitches of any kind (I’d only attempted the Missingno. trick before I found out it only worked in Red and Blue). He was glitched even as an Eevee, and I’m pretty sure I discovered the glitch the first time I ever took him out of the PC and viewed his stats. I was a little reluctant to evolve him since I thought it might fix him and then he wouldn’t be as special, but as luck would have it, he stayed exactly as glitched after I’d used the Thunderstone. He became a permanent team member, and I’d show him to people, all HEY LOOK DID YOU KNOW MY JOLTEON IS GLITCHED.
At the time, a “glitch” was just this vague idea of things sometimes randomly happening wrong on the game. I didn’t question what was actually going on in there that made this happen for this one Jolteon. But now, when I’ve personally dug into the game’s programming in a way my eleven-year-old self would have gone starry-eyed at, I’m really curious about exactly what was wrong with my Jolteon and how on earth it could have happened. I’ve never heard of it happening for anyone else on the Internet, and knowing something about programming, the effects it had seem pretty puzzling. I mean, I know I wasn’t just imagining things because it’s not something that happened once, it’s something that happened consistently. There must have been some particular thing wrong with my Jolteon’s data, but I have no idea what or why, and I’m increasingly tempted to try to find out.

The 254th
Introducing the named clones of the 254th Legion, right under the cut! Any questions for these boys directly, just yeet it in the ask box <3
Viper (CT-2472): The commando of the 254th, dubbed thanks to his tactical strategies that bring down their opponents in one calculated strike. He is the Dad of the squad, always making sure that every order his troopers carry out is something he is willing to do himself. Every week he and Rex sit down with spotchka to cry about all the shit their troops do and also have an unspoken War Crime Competition™️ between the 254th and 501st.
After the issuing of Order 66, he becomes a cold, strategic captain with an unbendable will.
Fang (CT-2411): Viper’s second in command, biggest fan, or both. He prefers a good ol’ vibroblade over blasters, and when he's in action, his yellow blades look akin to those of a viper's fangs, hence his nickname. Between him and Viper, their enemies have no chance of escaping their tactical death grip.
When his captain ends up fully committing to the Empire, Fang finds himself looked up to in the leadership position. He is constantly reminded of his former captain and closest brother, Viper, and in order to do good by him, Fang holds himself responsible to take good care of what remains of his squad.
Flanker (CT-2424): Your local flanking scum who is always happy to deal low blows to bring an enemy down, most often seen with Ghost. Hide your husbands, hide your wives, because this man will snatch up all available hearts.
Lowkey enjoys bullying Crosshair.
Ghost (CT-2457): He is always working together with Flanker, flanking enemies and taking down their defense. He melts into the shadows like nobodies business, often spooking his brothers. Flanker once found out that he had a ‘diary’ (“It’s a journal!!”) and will never let him live it down. Enjoys dicking around with Cody.
Solar (CT-1511): Flirty flashbomb lover, need I say more?
Ok I will say more. Solar is always competing with Flanker for the number of heads they can turn with their charms, always trying to get others to swoon. They’re favorite target is General Kenobi and Cody hates them for it.
Click: The sniper, and frankly he's a cocky one, whenever he's going to shoot an enemy he's sure he'll kill in a single shot, he clicks his tongue before pulling the trigger.
Tic: Explosives expert and enthusiast, often saying tick tock as he bombs things or defuses said bombs.
Stims (CT-0702): Always has stimpacks, the local Mom of the team. He runs on caf exclusively during missions, but actually prefers the taste of tea. Best friends with Kix, they bond over getting mad at their teammates always getting unnecessarily hurt.
Hazard: Is he a menace to his allies, or to the enemy? No one can agree on it since he brings just as much hazard to his brothers as well as to their opponents.
Anchor (CT-1125): knows his way around ships, your local hardware guy. He designed and built the Fire Raven. He and Tech grew up building Legos together, and in Modern!au, the two totally does robotics.
Crossfire: The lad always seem to be stuck in the worst possible position during battle, it’s a wonder he’s still alive. Between him and Hazard, they have pulled off so many close shaves the 254th has stopped counting. Crossfire actually dislikes being associated with Hazard, as the latter is ‘the bumbling idiot’ while he’s merely in the wrong place at the wrong times.

Stillness, armor, footwear, favorite, and change for Daichi! And Favorite for Eniko and Branwen as well!
thanks!! // oc asks: character design edition
EVERYONE
favorite: Does your OC have a favorite article of clothing or accessory? What is it? What's the meaning behind it? Do they wear it all the time or do they wear it sparingly to keep it safe?
DAI — honestly he really loves his tennis shoes. they're so nice! nothing like a good sturdy pair of sneakers, as it turns out. upside of being back in selto: he can get a new pair of shoes now that this pair have been through the fuckin wringer.
ENIKO — oh boy. eniko's entire schtick is not having anything to care about so much that losing it would hurt. he definitely has some favorite knives, but that's a practical sort of favoritism. I think he might get a little attached to his hairtie? it's literally just a scrap of fabric but. y'know how you feel naked when you're missing your hairtie? he'd have something like that.
BRAN — her HAT! it's a magic hat!! it's also just a Really good hat and a pirate should have a good hat. (she also has a signet ring from her mother that she always wears)
DAI
stillness: How does your OC act while still? Are they fidgety? Do they have any common gestures or tics? Does their clothing affect how they hold themselves while at rest?
Daichi tends to stand or sit upright when he's at rest. Even when he's nervous or angry or whatnot, he's not fidgety. He might clench his fist or his jaw, and he's got a face like an open book, but he's got good physical self control. The weight and bulk of his armor does make him tend to stand up or sit up straighter than he might without the extra weight, but years of accounting for his uniform and armor has ingrained that discipline in him even when he's out of armor.
armor: What kind of armor does your OC wear? Is it well kept? Bonus: where does it come from? Is there a story behind it?
Dai wears an adamantine breastplate that he bought while traveling. It doesn't have any real emotional connection since it's just gear he purchased, but it's definitely proven useful (shout out to that adamantine anti-crit mechanic)! He's good about taking care of his gear, but it's been a bit rough going lately, and it could probably use a good buff after the swamp monster and the mountain weather and the sulfurous cursed abyssal ocean shit. He also has a +3/4 shield he fished out of the guts of a colossal forest beast which is CRAZY helpful with a whole bunch of shit. He's got the Shield Master feat and the extra +3 to select Dex saves has been a lifesaver. Literally.
footwear: What does your OC wear on their feet?
Tennis shoes!! He discovered sneakers when he got to Selto and he's got a good sturdy pair with good arch support and a nice tread. Way more comfortable than the garrison-provided boots. Technology is great and all but if he could take one thing back to Airedon with him, it's his pumped-up kicks.
change: Has your OC ever drastically changed their appearance? Significant haircuts, big tattoos, complete wardrobe swap, etc? Why? How do they feel about the change?
When he died, he did a pretty hack job cutting all his hair off. He had locs up until that point but he shaved it down as close to the scalp as he could with a knife and a pack of drug-store razors. (He had a, uh, pretty rough talk with his god before he got resurrected and needed to make some Decisions about it.) It's grown back a bit by now—I think he might braid it. If he survives the next hour.

“I wasn’t expecting to see you here early.”
“Well, expect the unexpected.”
“Don’t turn the motto back at me. I’m sick of hearing it so many damn times.”
“What? You and I both know that it’s true. You’re here early too, so, technically you don’t get to say anything.”
Jeongin straightened his bow tie, then patted down the sides of his perfectly ironed tux with not a crinkle to be found. Knowing him, it was a miracle that he hadn’t messed it up in some form yet. He promptly took out his pocket square to clean off his glasses.
“You’re looking nice. Seems like they don’t mind spending money now on you these days.” He blew off the flecks of dust on his lenses.
“They know that they get their return on their investment. And thank you.”
You smoothed down the sides of your dusty pink dress that nearly went all the way down to your ankles. Had you any other choice, it would’ve been something different, but, dresses were really good at hiding your thigh holster compared to the slacks you usually favored. You didn’t mind the times that you would have to put on a pretty dress, it somewhat reminded you that there was normal life outside of your job. Not to mention, they had started sending you jewelry as well. You always had liked the look of a diamond necklace.
“You do your research for tonight?”
Jeongin nodded, then took from his pocket his phone to read over the details.
“I’ve done a background check on everyone attending, we shouldn’t have any issues. It’s already a low risk event anyway. Charity is never something to get too worked up over, but, you never know with the detail that some of these people come with...who they might be tied to...”
“--The only people we can trust is ourselves.” You nodded with arms crossed.
“Expect the unexpected, I know.” He slid his phone back into his inside suit pocket to adjust his cufflinks.
“--Nervous?” You took note of his fidgeting actions.
“Nervous? No. I’ve been through this before. You know that.”
You flicked your partner right on his forehead strung with his white hair. You had really wished that he had picked a less conspicuous color, but he had strings to pull that you didn’t.
Jeongin cleared his throat, “You do your once over?”
“Do you even need to ask? I did it hours ago and when we arrived. You know that I’ve done this before too.”
“I know. I know.”
Jeongin looked out at the vast circular atrium that made up the center of the hotel. Several stories down under the glass rooftop, you could hear the faint sprinkling of the intricate fountain which smelled of copper. A bit further down, you could see the tips of the tree branches from the indoor landscaping. Across the way, a door slammed with residents tucking in their ties. The two men you had recognized from the roster: a simple thing which made you feel at ease. Your young partner must’ve started to have an effect on you. A sense of unease seemed to quell in your neck. You always listened to your hunches.
“W-what do you think he thinks of us?” Jeongin broke the silence.
“Well,” From inside the room you had waited outside, you could hear his distant murmuring, so you lowered your tone. “I think that he has yet to trust us. It’s only been a few weeks. He doesn’t seem like the kind to give himself up easy. That, and I’m sure his resentment of his father must have some influence.”
“You think he hates us?”
“I think he hates his father for hiring us. I mean, wouldn’t you? His old security detail, he had them for years.”
“I guess so. But, we’re not like his old detail.”
“No. We’re not. I don’t think he gets that yet. I think he sees us as one more way his father has a hold on him.”
“It’s not like he can do much else about it when his dad’s a kin--”
“--No, no, thank you, really, it’s lovely. Some of your best work. Thank you.”
Chan swung open the door to his room, stopping Jeongin right in his sentence.
“Ah. You’re here already. That’s...punctual.”
As dazzling and showy as ever, Chan looking nothing short of a magazine model. For a prince, he had certain...appearances that he had to maintain. Today, it was a velvety and maroon suit jacket with a white button up. On the collar, two matching brooches had been perfectly placed, and they were silver like moonlight in the shape of English ivy and adorned with diamonds. On his lapel, he wore the royal insignia of the lion and the wolf. Behind him, you could see his slew of stylists cleaning up their makeup kits and obscene assortment of designer dress shoes for him to pick from. You had thought before that he even smelled like royalty: stuffy white roses with a hint of priceless cognac.
Jeongin bowed his head respectfully. “Everything has been prepared for tonight. The rest of your guards are surrounding the building, and I’ll be corresponding with them as needed, your Highness.” He tapped at his earpiece.
Chan drew his attention over to you, giving you a rather lusty glare. Over the past couple weeks, you had gotten used to it. He was a prince to every extent of the word. If there was anything that he had wanted, he simply had to ask. It drove him insane that all he could do was merely look at you. You had  wondered if he harbored anything else for you besides the way that he would devour the curves of your shoulders and hips.
“Fox. Bee. You look nice tonight. I like seeing you dressed up. Makes me feel less out of place.”
You couldn’t help but let out a little sound of discontentment over his rather affectionate nickname for you. You and your partner had been introduced to him as F and B. Quickly he had figured out Jeongin’s codename as Fox, considering that he had done a poor job picking out one that wasn’t related to him at all. Anyone could tell that boy was fox-like, and he also just wasn’t that creative when it came to picking out a name for himself. B, or Bee as he had decided, was your name; as in bumblebee. After learning about Fox, he figured that there was an animal theme going, so Bee seemed to fit best in his oponion.
You tested his glare with your best, “Thank you, your Highness.”
Jeongin gulped. “Your assistant should be waiting downstairs with your itinerary. She told me that you should meet her first off.”
“You work too hard F. Have some fun tonight, hm? But don’t...drink too much. You’re responsible for my life remember?” Chan clapped his bodyguard on the back.
Your partner nervously laughed and adjusted his glasses once more: his preferred tic.
“And Bee?” Chan rose a brow to lean into close and whisper. “Stay close, alright?”
“Of course, your Highness.”
Chan let out a little scoff after getting one more proper look at your frame. “Damn. You really are stunning. Just a little too dangerous for me though.”
You rolled your eyes, dishing him outa, “Whatever you say, your Highness.”
Jeongin threw you and annoyed glare before tracing after Chan as he sauntered down the hall to the glass elevator.
“Bee? You coming? Or do you have something better to do?” Chan’s voice called down the hall with an echo and a little teasing gesture of his hand.
━━━━━━━━━▲━━━━━━━━━
It had been seven years since you had chosen this line of work, and each time that you had to go to one of these things, you hated them more and more. Not because they were hard to control--they were easy--but you just hated how many superficial and self-absorbed people that they could fit into one room.
The air was filled with the scent of champagne bubbles and too much Chanel No. 5. From corner to corner of the room, and even next to the ice sculpture of the lion and the wolf crest, silk, satin; velvet and the best cotton could be found. Long gloves covered the arms of ladies with wrinkling skin, and tweed vests held in the guts of men who indulged in their food just as much as their mistresses. All this effort just to appear as if they had given one care about the philanthropic efforts of the royalty.
Several neatly dressed waiters passed you with golden platters of hors d'oeuvres made of ingredients so expensive, they would’ve cost the same amount as the generous donations made by the attendees. If you could’ve, you would’ve scooped up as many of them as you could, just to eat all of their copious amounts of money yourself, but, there was somewhere a rule that you had to keep your hand to yourself when you were on duty. The best that you had to look forward too was take-out to eat at 3 in the morning with Jeongin later.
Buzzing chatter filled your earpiece while each of the additional guards gave their hourly report.
“Damn. It’s fucking colder out here than I thought. It’s fucking summer.” One of them joked to the tune of the other guards laughter.
“Stay focused.” Jeongin scolded over the line. “Don’t leave your posts until your shifts change.”
While he was a timid man, Jeongin was not one to mess around. Son of the director, he knew that he had big shoes to fill. After pleading for years for her to admit him into the academy, she had agreed. Everyone knew the reason why she didn’t want him in this line of work. Too many dead. Too many missing. In some ways, he was also yours to look after.
You trailed after Chan who was busy talking to his assistant and his publicist. While he nodded at their words, you knew that he must’ve been barely listening. Chan never really was one for formality, but much rather enjoyed simplicity and pleasure. Jeongin and you had somewhat of a bet going: out of all the guests, you had liked to bet which one he would take with him to his bedroom. Since you had all the profiles of the guests, you liked to bet a little money on which one it would be.
Jeongin had guessed it to be the heiress and daughter of a tycoon who had made a multi-million won donation in the name of his company. It was ironic; his very company was a big-scale pollutor who liked to make nice with the crown. She was conventionally very pretty: long legs, a thin frame, she was educated and looked as if she could hold somewhat of a conversation...not like that mattered to him.
You had predicted it to be the foreign CEO who had just started business dealings with the crown. While she might’ve looked a bit stuck-up and prim, she was intimidating, and a challenge. Chan loved challenges. Chan also had a pension for pretty boys with a bit too much money on their hands--usually inherited--and with nothing much else to do other than dote on him. There were plenty of those attending the gala tonight.
Chan snaked through the crowd, bowing his head at all of the Good evening, your Highnesses and the It’s a pleasure to meet you, your Highnesses. Every few moments or so he would take a bite from a golden plate and then pop it into his mouth. The whole night long, he would hold his glass with him and it would get refilled for him without him even needing to ask. You sometimes liked to pretend that in some places, they must’ve assigned someone to watch him from afar to make sure that he would never need anything before it was given to him. It wouldn’t have surprised you.
“Having fun Bee?” Chan languidly rolled his head back, swirling his glass.
“As much fun as you are.” You quipped.
“Anything that I should be concerned about?”
“Nothing of concern.” You stated matter-of-factly. Had you matched his flirting tone, you knew that you wouldn’t hear the end of it for the rest of the night. “Fox. Report?”
“Nothing that I can see. No one has been tagging you.” Jeongin had staked himself up on the upper balcony of the banquet hall room, and had been watching for as long as you had been following after the prince. “You sensing anything strange?” His voice tickled in your in-ear.
“Just a bunch of the normal crowd.” You kept your tone down low. “He’s rubbing noses with the usual. You’ve seen too?”
He chuckled. “Yeah. I know what you mean.”
You followed Chan to his seat nearest the front of the room which had been fashioned into a stage with a clear glass podium in the center. Right in front there was one more crest decorating it. Chan had ensured it to be so: he had wanted everyone to know that this was all for his charity.
“It seems like our bets aren’t working out. He hasn’t talked to either of the...suspects.” Your partner changed his choice of words knowing that the other guards were listening.
From the opposite side of the room both the heiress and the CEO stood with thin glasses of wine in their lithe hands. Chan had in fact walked right past them, and didn’t even notice.
“Tonight is going to be a long night.” Jeongin sighed over the line.
You politely pushed past attendees with a raised hand and a sweet smile. You had found that when you smiled, you had appeared less intimidating.
“Oh wait...what’s this?”
“What?” You whipped your head around after Jeongin’s interjection. “What? Do you see something? What’s the call?”
“Relax! It just looks like he’s approaching someone he wants to talk to. I think both of us are about to be proven wrong.”
“Ah, shit.” You sighed. “Don’t put me on edge like that.”
“I’m only trying to entertain myself.”
“Name. Who is it? You’ve got the roster.”
You partner was quiet for a minute, and you watched from a distance as Chan approached the man leaned over a martini seated at one of the perfectly decorated tables.
“Uh, I think that he’s Lee Minho. Some kind of royalty from somewhere else. Pretty low ranking from the looks of it. I think that he made a donation himself...and it’s...damn, larger than you would expect.”
“Should we be concerned?”
“No. Seems harmless.”
“Thank you for coming,” You made out the words that Chan had mouthed. He drew a chair next to the unknown man.
From what you could tell, Lee Minho was handsome to the full extent of the word: nearly all of his physical features were exemplary and his suit appeared to have been fitted to perfect for him; likely one of a kind. He too wore an insignia on his lapel, but it was one that you hadn’t recognized before. He had immaculately styled hair that had some kind of rebellious and boyish charm to it. The man had a kind of mystery about him too: you had been able to pride yourself in being able to read people, and it had saved your life on more than one occasion. But with him, there was something that you couldn’t place.
“Do they know eachother?” You asked Jeongin.
“Not that I know of. School friend maybe? Seems like all the royals send their kids to the same schools.”
“Hm. That would make sense.”
“Enjoying yourself?” Chan said.
Lee Minho nodded, and rose his glass to clink it with the prince’s.
“Do we think that he’s our...suspect?”
The stranger dipped his head into his hand as he listened to Chan speak. A flirty gesture that you had seen a hundred times or more. Still, the way that he inspected Chan, it wasn’t adoring. Or at least, you didn’t think that it was.
“No. I don’t think so.”
“What the hell are you yapping about?” One of the other guards snapped over the line.
“Um, classified stuff.” Jeongin quickly explained. “Above your paygrade. Don’t worry about it.”
“Fox. Watch out for him tonight.” You snuck over to a corner of the room where you could watch the two of them more discreetly.
“Affirmative....” Your partner paused. “Babydoll.”
“Pffff--Babydoll??” The same guard stifled his laughter. “You call her Babydoll, Fox? Damn, you all must be closer than I thought. Didn’t know that I was missing out on some of the action--”
“--Ever heard of a codename, Three?”
“Babydoll’s her codename.”
A grin crept over your lips. “Expect the unexpected.”
You had almost gotten distracted enough to miss how Lee Minho had leaned over to whisper something into the prince’s ear. After he had done so, Chan laughed out a little, then reached his arm around the other man’s chair comfortably.
“They’re...cozy.” You updated your partner.
“I’m trying to cross-check where he might know him from.”
Chan’s assistant and publicist finally slipped away with giddy little smiles. In many ways, you were jealous of them. They could leave whenever the wanted, eat what they wanted...
Jeongin scoffed. “Well, turns out...nothing. I can’t find anything.”
“Nothing?”
“Negative. I’m not seeing any crossover.”
“So they really are strangers?”
Your partner sighed. “Looks like neither of us are cashing ou--I mean--finding the suspect.”
Under your breath, you wondered aloud, “Who are you...Lee Minho?”
━━━━━━━━━▲━━━━━━━━━
The night drew on longer with the rest of the formalities: the formal dinner, followed by several speeches from important people while dessert was being served. It all led up to the final act: His Royal Highness, Prince Chan’s speech. On several neat notecards marked with the crest, he held them in front of him while he ate his last bits of Mont Blanc Chocolate Pavlova. Even the name of the sweet itself sounded pretentious. Granted, it smelled delicious--as many expensive things did.
You stifled a yawn from your little set up on the edge of the room. At least you should’ve been able to sit, but it turns out that sitting is also against the rules in this line of work. A couple other security and bodyguards had joined you at the edge: some of their heads nodded with sleep, and the others looked as if they had taken one too many energy shots. Luckily, your stamina had been well crafted.
A fancily dressed MC made his way up to the podium and the room filled with applause after the last speaker had said all of their correct mandatory words.
“It is my honor to introduce to the stage, our wonderful head benefactor of this organization, His Royal Highness, Prince Chan of the Crown.
Applause tenfold of before erupted through the whole room and it wasn’t even an afterthought for the every attendee to stand up from their seats in an ovation. It was a force of habit for you, but you found yourself clapping as well.
Chan rose with grace, and re-buttoned his jacket with finesse. A blinding spotlight found him and it made the diamonds adorning his beck wink brilliantly. Even more blinding was his pearl white, and perfectly trained smile accompanied by his wave.
Thank you. Thank you. He mouthed.
“It’s like he’s a frickin’ movie star.” Jeongin groaned.
“Might as well be with the way that they treat him. You know deep down they’re all just terrified.”
Chan made his way up to the stage in all of his regality, and the applause didn’t stop until he cleared his throat. A collective groaning of a couple hundred chairs squeaked when everyone sat back down.
“Thank you everyone, really. I wanted to thank you all for your generous support in your donations to this organization, as well as your association with the crown. I’m sure that all the beneficiaries of your donations are beyond thankful compared to me. Without you, this would not be possible.” Chan spoke with grandiose gestures, as usual, but this time, he had found you on the side of the room. “Listen, aside from being a prince, I’m also just a person. A person who knows what it means to struggle, to--”
“--I can’t listen to this anymore.” You whispered into the quiet room, and to your partner.
“Just a few more hours.” He droned. “I almost wish that something would happen so that we don’t have to sit though much else of this.”
“Be careful what you wish for.”
In the corner of your eye, Lee Minho shifted in his seat, but still kept his undivided attention to the stage. You figured he must’ve been just like the rest of them: enamored by the flashiness of the crown--and Chan. He had a way of putting a spell on people: it was the kind of spell that a prince of deception had crafted after years of being kept under lock and key.
“--Anyway, what I’m trying to say, royal or fanciful we all might be, in the simplest way, we’re all just people, therefore this is what connects us all. Thank you.”
Chan was gifted yet another standing ovation that was somehow even more thunderous than before.
“Yeah right.” You scoffed. “People born into money. There’s a difference.”
Chan gave his last waves, then a clamor echoed from the back of the room. At first, it had just sounded like the same raucous laughter you had heard all night, but then it shifted to something different. The sound of laugher turned into shouting, then screams: high pitched and piercing. You had seconds to respond, head whipping around the room to catch sight of the confused prince. In your in-ears, the the sound of gunshots echoed with rapid-fire speed. Machine guns. Shouting commands barked in your ear, and muddled with Jeongin’s string of demands and questions.
“WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON OUT THERE? REPORT! REPORT!”
Your heart instantly started beating into hyperdrive, and your legs sprinted as fast has physically possible
“THEY’VE GOT GUNS!” A shrill and cracked voice of an older woman wailed from the back of the room.
Immediately after she had said so, shots fired into the darkened room with sparks, and the metallic sound of bullets hitting the marbled ground followed.
Chan looked around in his panic for you, petrified on the stage. You slung your gun out from your thigh holster and latched onto him with all of your might.
“TH-THEY JUST CAME OUT OF NOWHERE IN THESE VANS. THEY’RE ARMOURED, WE CAN’T--”
“Get the fuck down there and secure the exists!” Jeongin growled into his mic. “B--is the prince secure??”
“Secure!” You yelled back. Using your body as a barrier, you led the cowering prince through the mass hysteria of the crowd.
“Oh fuck. Oh fuck. Shit.” Chan shook under your iron grip.
More shots fired into the room and bodies parted like the sea and fell over each other.
From the balcony, you had caught Jeongin aiming his own gun at the chaos below.
“I’ll cover you! Fuck! There’s so many of them! Get him to the car out back--Three, Six, meet B out there! Three!? Six!? Report!”
“Three and Six are down F!” One of the guards panted. “I can provide cover out back!!”
“Who’s speaking??” Jeongin bellowed, then aimed from above at one of the intruders. Your only focus was on weaving you and Chan out of there, but you had seen one of them in a blur. Each of the men with guns wore dark grey suits with black ties and leather gloves. Each of them wore their own crest: and it was all red.
“Bee?? Bee???” Chan shouted out for you, and jumped every time the crack of a shot echoed in the ballroom.
“I’ve got you, your Highness. We’ll be out soon. Keep your head down and listen to me.” Your arm held to him tightly, and you soon found the exit nearest. There was no telling if there would be more of them outside, but you loaded your gun quickly just in case, and pointed it out.
“Jeongin, get your ass down here!”
“Jeongin? Who the fuck is that??” Chan ducked down to hide himself behind your frame.
His name had slipped on your tongue, but that hardly mattered.
“I’ll be down in a second!!!”
“Don’t fucking waste time up there when I need you down here!!”
“Two! Two Reporting!!” A man suddenly yelled in your in-ear. “I’ve made it out back and I’ve secured the exit. The car is safe!!”
“FOX! Now!”
Your partner heaved, “I’m coming, I’m coming!!”
You kicked open the exit door, gun’s still blazing, however one one else could be found on the other side.
“Thank God,” You sighed.
“Oh shit, I’m gonna be sick.” Chan had turned paler than white, then stumbled in your arms.
“Hey, HEY!” You held him upright. “It’s gonna be alright. I’ve got you. You’re safe. You need to trust me. Your life is in my hands and I’m not giving it up easy, got it?”
“O-okay.” He stammered, then attempted to straighten himself.
“The Prince is outside, repeat, The Prince is outside. Two, are you in position?”
“Yes. Yes, I am.”
Other than the fact that you had just escaped absolute peril, the evening was unbearably pleasant. Crickets chirped in the summer evening, and the humidity of the night smelled gorgeously of the lake that was near-by as well as the vast array of flowers that had been purposefully landscaped around the hotel. Chan’s uneven steps scraped at the gravel walkway.
Since you had canvassed the whole building well, you had known exactly where the getaway car was, but you were still careful.
“Bee. Bee!” Chan blabbered. “Have-have I told you yet that I-I’m in love with you?”
“No, you haven’t Your Highness.”
“I fucking am. If I die tonight, I want you to know that I am ridiculously in love with you, and fuck, I wanna--”
“--I’m sorry, Your Highness, respectfully, but now is not the time for this and you are not dying on my watch.”
Somewhere off in the distance, frogs croaked, and the splashing of fish in the lake plopped at the surface waters. You turned a corner to finally see Two waiting his his gun raised. He was a bit of a shorter and scrawnier man, but something about him told you that where he lacked in strength, he must’ve made up for in agility.
“I’m out! I’m out!” Your partner gasped, and over the in-ear you could hear his running footsteps. “I’m almost there! I’ll be there in a second!”
“Your Highness,” Two bowed and opened the car door. “It’s a pleasure to finally meet you. You can call me Two or J. Either you prefer.”
Jeongin came bounding around the corner with heaving breaths and his clothes askew. His glasses which just barely held onto his face had a crack on them and his knuckles were covered in blood.
“Let’s go.” The younger man prompted.
“In the car you go, Your Highness.” You motioned for him to do so.
Chan whimpered like a toddler.
You shoved his body in, “Stop that. Get in the car.”
“I’m in love with you Bee!” He yelled out, “I’M FUCKING IN LOVE WITH YOU BEE!”
Jeongin slammed the door in his face with a bit of a chuckle.
“He’s delirious.”
“Mm.” your partner smiled. “Sure.”

for @that-was-anticlimactic <3
-
Langa sat and stared out at the open expanse of the sky, watching the clouds as they floated around. If he concentrated, relaxing his mind and reaching out with his bending, he could feel them; the way the water vapour held close together, how it moved and spread out into the faintest whisps.
His eyes slid open again, the connection with the water fading as voices started up on the other side of the furnace.
"Pretty clouds."
Sokka, Langa guessed, wasn't good with silence. Just like Reki.
"Yeah... fluffy."
Langa frowned, thinking of the cool kiss of gentle mist, and a heavy dampness against his hands. The burn in his muscles when he and Shadow had cloud shaping competitions to settle arguments.
Clouds weren't fluffy.
There was a whistle, and Langa wasn't entirely sure if it was one of Sokka's tics or just another attempt to fill the silence, but somehow it lead to the discovery that Sokka knew who had designed the war balloons.
"A balloon... but for war."
"If there's one thing my dad's good at- it's war."
Langa tuned out of the resulting squabble, looking down at his wrists and hooking a finger through the thin bracelet there, thumb stroking over the small engraved R that had been tied into it. He missed Reki.
Missed his tics, and his smile. His brightness. Sokka had been a wonderful friend in the few months they'd been by each others side, but sometimes it hurt to be around someone to similar to the boy he'd lost.
"The gloomy girl who sighs a lot?"
Langa looked up, seeing shadows moving along the other side of the war balloon, the peek of blue from Sokka's clothing and the dark of Zuko's boots.
"Yeah." Zuko's voice was soft, nostalgic almost. "Everyone in the Fire Nation thinks I'm a traitor, I couldn't drag her into it."
Langa nodded to himself, running his thumb over the R again. He wouldn't drag Reki into something like that either, would rather live a lifetime without him than know he was in danger because of Langa.
(He tried not to think about what might have happened if he'd just asked Reki to stay with them instead of going with the warriors.)
"My first girlfriend turned into the moon."
Langa froze, staring down at the dusty floor with raised eyebrows. That was rough.
There was a moment of heavy silence, like maybe Zuko didn't know how to respond either, before he finally offered an awkward "That's rough buddy" and they descended back into silence.
Langa had questions, a lot of them, but he'd ask about it when he had Reki back safe.
-
As soon as they had crashed onto the shores of the Boiling Lake, Langa had felt the water like a physical presence, an odd burning tingle in the back of his mind. Every loss of control over an emotion was accompanied by the brush of steam against his fingers, the lake boiling with a new intensity when he'd spotted Reki that first time in the yard.
Now, as they stood on the bridge, attempting their second escape plan, he could feel the lake under him, boiling and rolling with an acidic heat. The air around him felt almost alive, filled with steam that wreathed around him, pressing against his shoulders and hands with an invisible weight.
When he saw the firebender slipping into a bending form, Langa thinks he might have blacked out for a moment, mind empty of anything but blind panic as he shoved Reki out of the way and felt the water surge to meet him.
Water felt different, depending on where it was drawn from.
Water from the air was light and weak where the ocean was strong and cold, difficult to control as it pushed and pulled. Water kept in the flask on his hip was used to it, flowing with ease as it followed even the smallest of hand movements.
The water from the boiling lake was fast and angry, happy to follow the wide arc of Langa's arm when he threw it out, twisting itself into a sparkling column that came crashing down hard on the firebender, spraying burning mist in all directions before spreading out across the bridge and draining back into the lake below.
The guard barely had time to scream, but all Langa could think of was the glow of fire reflected in Reki's eyes, the bruises on his wrists, and he wasn't sorry.

Hello there, I seen your "prompt emergency". The quote: Of all the things I've seen, you make the most appearances in my dream. kiss prompt: 15. and I want with Crosshair. I hope I don't bother you. <3
YOU'RE NO BOTHER LOVE!!! I love you very much! Never a bother!
Tumblr media
The night was screaming and pounding on your window when you woke up. Crosshair was out of the medical bed, leaving you tucked in, curled up alone.
You scrambled to your feet, rushing out, ignoring the wrinkles creased into your usually pristine medical uniform. The storms outside pounded, the Kaminoian sky dark, which was how you imagined all the boys- your boys- felt.
The hallways had a designated lights-out time now, and you turned, brain whirring. Crosshair didn't know this place hardly well enough to go anywhere in particular.
Anywhere except-
You spun and ran, dodging the patrol squadron, formerly members of the 212th, feeling the aura of dread, hurt, sinking and weighing on them. These were hopeless days. But you wouldn't allow it to be hopeless for everyone.
You skidded, shoes squeaking on the floor, and you tapped the code to the Bad Batch's former bunk room. "Cross," You said, voice higher than normal.
Your patient stood, in the middle of the room, staring at the empty beds. The storm trooper squadron had been temporarily moved out so the walls could be cleaned free of Tech's calculations and Wrecker's tic marks or mindless doodles.
You hesitated, the lightning briefly casting the lengthy shadow of anguish over the room. You saw Crosshair's shoulders shaking, heard little sounds that resembled sobs.
You shut the door and hurried over, stopping a few feet short of him. "Cross, darling-"
"They're not coming back for me," His voice, usually a snake, was now an earthworm trembling in the rain, lost and raw. "I'm alone."
You stared at him. You had seen the republic, a beast, crumble with your own two eyes, but it didn't sting as much as watching this barren and cold statue of a man crumble, undone by the past months. "Cross," Your voice came out, more gentle than before. "I can't imagine the- the feelings-"
"I had to try and kill them." Crosshair slowly sunk forward, hands bracing on the table in the middle of the room. "They'll never forgive me." The raw burns, scraped off his charred flesh, must have been begging for rest, but it was nothing compared to the state of his emotional hurt. "I deserve this,"
"No one deserves this." You walked around him, giving him a wide berth. "You- and the rest of the troopers, even the regs- they have done nothing to deserve any of this." You reached up slowly, laying a hand delicately against the bandage on his cheek. "And they will forgive you. There's just something mightier than you or I involved."
"Why can't I resist?" He mumbled, eyes glazed, voice hazy with tears. "I can- I should-"
"Let's leave those for the morning." You glanced around, pausing, then slowly walking him towards his old bunk. "Come on. We can sleep in here tonight." You climbed in, not caring for how tough the mattress was, glancing up at him, patting the space beside you. "I'll hold you. Please, Cross, let me hold you for tonight. You need it."
The man hesitated, feet eventually gathering the courage to wander over and climb next to you. Crosshair turned away, allowing you to wrap your arms around him.
You sighed and pressed your lips tenderly to his right shoulder blade, one of the few unaffected places from the burns. "You know, I still care for you. Immensely.'
There was silence. It was thick and heavy, perhaps more turmoulous than the blankets of rain and rolling thunders outside. Crosshair sighed, then said softly, "When I was out on missions, all I could think of was you. I saw you mostly in my dreams, like this." He stopped again, drawing in a shaky breath, body drawing close in preparation for another round of sobs. "But.. but not here, not... not like this."
His cries, soft cries, were held by the thick walls of the room, and you could do little else other than cradle and hold him until, finally, the weary man drew himself exhausted from crying and only sobbed when he ran out of tears and not reasons to cry, to mourn.

hi hi hi i'm new here but i just got through your entire (at least i think so) accidental crime boss mari au and i love it so much!!! also my imagination went wild and here's what it came up with (this is so long, i'm so sorry 😂)
so, Jason teaching the kids street stuff, like pickpocketing and such, nobody can Ever pickpocket Mari (not that they'd try, i think, hahaha), somehow it's just not possible. you think you have her and then find out otherwise. furthermore! she'd probably actually know how to do A Lot of what Jason is teaching (look, saving Paris that many times and seeing the shit she's seen must have taught her something about street smarts, okay?), but whether she's aware of all of it or not remains... unanswered. she absolutely surprises everyone, jaws-on-the-floor style, the first time she does it, especially when she does it consciously. every time she does something unknowingly (and still in the Nicest Way Possible, how even--) Jason probably quietly gathers the kids around so that they can watch and learn in real time from an example. and also, even though she's The Responsible One between the two of them when it comes to this stuff, sometimes Mari helps the kids do something, like maybe pickpocket someone in the family, as a prank
now about the Rules!! more specifically the sword fighting and duelling etiquette rule: auntie Kagami teaches everyone who wants to learn fencing every time she visits. there are tournaments. there's probably a pocket dimension designed specifically for that. it doesn't help lessen the amount of Shenanigans happening all the time but boy does it get competitive
also also also i love the name Mother of Heroes!!!! it's so cool!!! The Brood too!!!
if you've got any, i would love to see some more headcanons with the Sirens or the other dark/darker characters of the city (i'm not that well-versed in the DC universe, so idk what to call them if they have a name, sorry)
also, we already know she's called the Pixie and that she's kinda considered a mob boss and etc., but like, what about the point of view of an outsider? the way it all came to be really must sound like something from legends or fairytales out there on the streets. something so sudden and kind, and if you look a bit closer magical and just so unexplainably other???? kids just disappearing off the streets in that area and then resurfacing again looking well fed and taken care of???? to those disillusioned enough with life it must literally sound like an urban legend or something. but she's real. if you need help you just gotta find her.
HI HI HI!!! oh my gosh all of it??? thank you so much!!
1) i think that Mari knows theoretically a lot of things about being on the streets, but not a lot practically. living on the streets has less to do with being able to fight and a lot more to do with instincts and experience and all these little tics you pick up when all you have to count on is yourself.
there are, of course, certain ‘street talents’ as i call them, like being able to pick locks and con people and having a sense for danger etc, etc.
mari knows that tangible things, because she’s bound to pick them up, obviously. the kids just don’t forget what they’ve learned, so often she sees it in action. Jason also teaches her street talents as well, sometimes on purpose, most times on accident.
there is a difference though, in how Mari uses said talents. when the kids use them, there is an edge to every movement. they use their talents like weapons, like they are shields, all bared teeth and fingers like claws. their talents come from pain and necessity and there will always be something a bit vicious about it.
Mari doesn’t have that, and never will. her talents are tools and tools only, one more to add to her vast repertoire. it’s as impersonal as it gets for her, which means its soft and sweet and used with care. her talents, even in combat or duels, are velvet over steel.
2) Oba Kagami, unfortunately, can’t visit often but when she does, oh boy is it intense. Mari and Chloe are always delighted when she and Adrien visit, but mari spends most of the trip running around and quelling fights and making sure no one loses a finger
3) thank you! i’d like to say id been planning the Mother of Heroes for a while but i came up with it mostly on the spot lol. it fits really well though and makes a lot of sense imo
i quite like it
4) hmmm. im not sure about much of that. despite being thought of as a crime boss, she stays away from the other rogues mostly. I think, if given the chance, Mari would likely adopt killer croc without question, and I think she’s on okay terms with Riddler in that they like to exchange brain teasers and the like, but other than the Sirens, mari stays away from crime.
for the sirens though, i very much like the idea that Harley basically thinks of Mari as a younger sister and is liable to just take her out on the town and leave Selina and Ivy to watch the kids while they go cause trouble for whatever group has caught Harley/Mari’s ire this time.
Ivy and Mari have a comradery in their shared love of plants and similarity in their powers. mari is more expansive and flexible than Ivy’s, but they share the same roots and the two spend lots of time gardening and keeping crops for the kids. (though, harvesting is often a chore for the older ones)
5) Mari being an urban legend is the truest thing I have heard. god, i’ve never really considered the outsiders perspective but yeah. could you imagine the stories people would whisper about the faerie living near crime alley? in the beginning, just after things start picking up and Mari has somewhere upwards of a dozen kids, I think it’d look something like this:
“People say there’s faeries living near crime alley. Magic folk settling back into the city that tried to drive them out. No one knows what they want, but they keep taking kids. The strange ones, the ones that are like them, that aren’t quite human.
“They say that they’ll help you, if only you ask. But be careful. There hasn’t been a kid to go in there and not come out different. They’re stronger, normally. And well-fed. But they also talk of strange creatures and stories no one’s ever heard of and you stop seeing them on the streets so much. (They say they live with the faeries now.)
“No one knows what the faeries want, but we know this: they help when you ask and they keep taking kids. I suppose, in the grand scheme, it depends on how much your willing to risk for some help.”
